Warren County Expansion

Project Overview

As a part of the Columbia Pipeline Group system, Columbia Gas Transmission operates more than 12,000 miles of natural gas transmission pipeline, with 1,000 miles in the Commonwealth of Virginia. These facilities are part of Columbia’s 10-state, 12,000-mile pipeline network that for more than 60 years continues to deliver abundant supplies of domestic, clean-burning natural gas from the Appalachian supply basin and other regions to markets in northern Virginia. As a major provider of natural gas services to local gas distribution companies serving Virginia and surrounding states, Columbia’s facilities play a key role in meeting the area’s seasonal requirements for power and heating.

As part of Columbia’s commitment to continue to safely and reliably meet the energy needs of the region, Columbia is proposing to install approximately 2.5 miles of new 24-inch diameter pipeline from its existing Nineveh Measuring Station near the intersection of U.S. Route 522 and Success Road to the Measurement and Regulation facility at the proposed new power generation station in the Kelly’s Court area of Warren County, Va.

Columbia has applied for authorization of the project from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the agency that regulates interstate natural gas pipelines. The FERC will conduct a detailed, thorough and public review of Columbia’s proposal while considering the need for the project and any potential impacts. Work will proceed only if and after the FERC completes its studies, reviews public comments, and approves the project.

During its review of the project, the FERC has assigned this request a docket number of CP11-490-000, and the public can follow the project on FERC’s website at www.ferc.gov/docs-filing/elibrary.asp.
